Winter Series: WWII German Aerospace Myths
7:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Occasionally, and usually with a lot of publicity, rumors and myths surface about the capabilities of German aerospace technologies during WWII. Did a German four engine bomber come within 12 miles of the U.S. shoreline and return unharmed? Did Germany fly manned versions of the V-1 cruise missile to ram Allied bombers in suicide missions? Did Germany launch V-2 missiles from submarines in preparation to bomb the U.S. East Coast? Were German jets just weeks away from overpowering Allied bombers and turning the outcome of the war? What was project “Silbervogel” (silver bird) – the antipodal bomber? And what about those German UFOs and bases in Antarctica?
With the exception of the Antarctic UFOs, there is a bit (sometimes not much) truth in these stories, and German born spacecraft propulsion engineer Dr. Dieter M. Zube will try to shine some light to sort through the available evidence and set the record straight on these and other stories that continue to capture the imagination of the interested public.
